QCI Connect 2025 – Lessons Learned Forum

On 16–17 September 2025, the QCI community came together for QCI Connect 2025 – Lessons Learned Forum, a unique two-day event dedicated to reflecting on the progress of quantum communication infrastructures across Europe. Organized by EstQCI members — the Estonian State Infocommunication Foundation and Metrosert — the forum gathered experts from 17 countries who are actively building Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) networks as part of the EuroQCI initiative.

The two-day event was filled with presentations, discussions, and exchanges on the challenges faced and successes achieved in deploying the first national QKD networks. Many of the lessons learned were documented and will become part of the future EuroQCI Toolbox — a practical guide designed to support anyone aiming to build a QKD network. Participants also shared their future plans for expanding towards a truly European-wide QKD network, laying the foundation for a securely connected Europe.

One of the strongest messages that emerged was clear: while each country has unique circumstances, many face similar challenges in this journey. Cooperation is essential — not only within each nation but also across borders. The forum provided a valuable platform for international collaboration, as participants explored opportunities for joint technical developments, testing, and standardisation efforts.

Our heartfelt thanks go to all the participants for sharing their experiences and fostering wonderful discussions. The event demonstrated how much the QCI community has grown in both size and spirit. Together, we are shaping the path toward a secure and quantum-resilient Europe.
