Quantum computing is evolving quickly, offering advancements in computing power and enabling breakthroughs in areas like drug discovery, finance and climate science. However, many organisations still wonder where to start, what support they need and how to proceed. To accelerate progress, VTT is launching a campaign that allows companies to apply for access to VTT\u2019s superconducting quantum computer at no cost.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The campaign is meant for public research projects. Companies may apply for 1\u201320 hours of quantum processing unit (QPU) time over the course of one year. The applicants shall be able to justify the computing resource need for the public research project. The campaign is open to companies based in the EU, EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By opening access, VTT wants to ensure that quantum computing does not remain the privilege of a few but becomes a driver of competitiveness, innovation and growth.

The evaluation criteria for the applications are the scientific, societal or technological contribution, justification of the problem vs. required computing resources, contribution to the Finnish quantum ecosystem, plan for publishing the results and the capability to execute the project. Applications must be submitted on 30 November 2025 at the latest.

\u201cWe wish to lower the barriers and help companies to explore and develop quantum algorithms for optimisation, simulation and machine learning use cases, learn and advance the development of new quantum applications\u201d, says Matti Palom\u00e4ki<\/strong>, Lead, Quantum Computing Applications at VTT. 

\u201cBy enabling this campaign, we want to help to develop Finland\u2019s quantum ecosystem and extend international collaboration in Europe. This will also offer European companies a possibility to position themselves at the forefront of quantum computing and be among the first to gain business benefits\u201d, Palom\u00e4ki continues.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
